Building a false chimney breast

Having needed a bit of a distraction from life recently I decided to set my Husband the task of building a false chimney breast in the centre of our living room. We have spoken about it before as we have always felt our living room has been so big and not cosy.

It didn't take much persuasion before work begun! (This is always how it works in our house. I design something and he builds it. It works quite well! )

Mr C instantly got busy doing the complicated bits such as measuring it all out, checking I was happy with the size, organsing the plasterers etc whilst I searched online for new lampshades, cushion covers, throws and the other essential things we needed!

It took Adam and his work colleague less than a day to build the actual structure. They used 4x2 bits of wood to build a sturdy frame. The most complicated part was fitting in the TV bracket and making sure they left enough room to be able to get the TV in and out.

They then plasterboard it up ready for the plasters to come in and plaster it.

As it was going to be our feature wall it made sense to paint it a different colour and we opted for ‘summer grey’. In my opinion it’s the perfect kind of grey. Not too dark and not too light. I choose the grey from B&Q and it is actually there own brand Valspar.

The logs were ordered from the log man who deliver such a good service. You send in the measurements you require to be filled and what style of wood you want and they supply you with the correct number of logs. I choose Chestnut logs in round and side split cut.

We did consider putting a fireplace in but I changed my mind and I’m so glad I did. The logs look so good and just complete it!

Overall I am really, really happy with how its has transformed the room. People know walk in and go Wow which I love. It has made it feel more cosy and modern instead of just being one large square room!

  1. Hi Nice and Valuable article, I like the way you narrated about chimneys. I believe that every chimney is not same and different chimney types are used for different occasions, However finding the best chimney suitable for our need is not a big problem but these Boiler prices is the thing we need to give a little focus.
